Broadband penetration vital to digitalize Pakistan: Khalid Maqbool

ISLAMABAD: The penetration of broadband is vital to digitalize Pakistan, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said on Wednesday.

He was addressing a contract signing ceremony of project - Broadband Coverage for North Waziristan Agency, Frontier Region Bannu & Frontier Region Lakki Marwat - between Universal Service Fund (USF) and Jazz.

The Minister said the government would continue to work towards achieving the mission of broadband penetration at every corner of the country to facilitate masses.

He congratulated teams of USF and Jazz for doing such an incredible job.

This event marks one of the greatest landmarks achieved in the field of IT and Telecommunication, he said.

Siddiqui said this project in North Waziristan would help bridge digital divide by providing services to unserved communities and open-up new horizons for them.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said in Pakistan, socio-economic development is directly linked to provision of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services and it is the endeavour of government to bring all parts of the country at par with each other.

He said the government was committed to promoting ICTs facilities in the country.

This special project aims to bring positive changes in lives of people of unserved areas, he said.
