Five pedestrians injured as police give chase to 'suspicious' car in Shikarpur

SHIKARPUR: Five people were injured during an episode of a police chase and cornering a "suspicious" car Monday night here at a checkpoint near Rustam Chowk, authorities confirmed.

According to police, officers indicated a car at a checkpoint to halt for search when it failed to do so and, instead, sped away. The officers subsequently gave it a chase, hitting and wounding four pedestrians in the way.

Police officers also opened fire during the chase, injuring another pedestrian.

All five people were shifted to a nearby hospital, police confirmed, adding that the car that failed to stop at the checkpoint was finally stopped near Rustam Chowk and its passengers arrested.

Among the arrestees were two women, police said, adding that nearly 62 kilogrammes worth of hashish was recovered from the car that was reportedly travelling from Nushki to Sukkur.
