LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member of Punjab Assembly Hina Pervez Butt on Tuesday tabled the Acid and Burn Crime Bill 2019 in the House, seeking capital punishment or life imprisonment for the one involved in such heinous attacks.

The bill suggests that a person facilitating such attacks should also get a minimum three-year prison term.

It says the suspects involved in acid attacks should be remanded into custody for 14 days and investigations be completed in 60-day period.

A police officer of inspector rank should investigate such cases, while the ones harassing any witnesses should also be sentenced to two years and fined, the bill sought.

It further recommended that a convict should be allowed to challenge the verdict against him in the Lahore High Court within 30 days.

On the occasion, Hina Pervez Butt maintained that acid attacks were on the rise in the country, with women being the target in most of the cases.

She termed adopting the bill a need of the hour.
