Lahore woman dies mysterious death, family claims in-laws abused her

LAHORE: A newly-married woman from the city's Kahna neighbourhood died mysteriously late Sunday at her in-laws' residence almost a month-and-a-half after her wedding, authorities confirmed.
Police registered a first information report (FIR) only after the bereaved family took to protest with the deceased's body and blocked Ferozepur Road.
The FIR was filed on behalf of the late woman's brother, Adeel Aslam, against the husband, who was identified as Ashfaq.
According to police, 18-year-old Sonia arrived at her familial home and died shortly afterwards. Her family alleged that her in-laws beat and murdered her, then left her at outside her parents' residence.
Police, however, denied the presence of any torture marks and evidence of murder.
