Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) minority lawmaker Dr Ramesh Kumar believes that the reappointment of Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan may convey a "bad message".

The Punjab government on Monday reappointed Chohan as the provincial information minister. He will head the information department along with his current portfolio of colonies department.

In a conversation with The News, Dr Kumar said that it was the prime minister's prerogative to choose anyone for the role but "testing an already tested person" shows that at the moment the party lacks people who are better suited for the office.

Dr Kumar, who had strongly protested over the controversial remarks Chohan had given regarding the Hindu community, said that a person with a "negative attitude" should not be given the post.

“His role as the information minister previously was very negative and his remarks were not acceptable to any good human being, it is the prerogative of the PM, but this will convey a negative message” he added.

In March this year, Chohan had to resign as the information minister over his anti-Hindu remarks. The PTI lawmaker had come under severe criticism after a video of him making the remarks had gone viral on social media.
