Sahiwal man who raped, killed four-year-old arrested, identified as paternal uncle

SAHIWAL: A man who raped and killed a minor girl earlier this month was identified as the victim's paternal uncle, police said Sunday, confirming that he was arrested.

Addressing a press conference here, the district police officer (DPO) for Sahiwal, Muhammad Ali Zia, said the DNA samples of four suspected men had been taken for the sexual assault and murder of a four-year-old on December 2 here in the city's Imran Town neighbourhood.

Of the four DNA samples sent to the forensic lab for testing, that of suspect Ali Sher matched and he was consequently arrested earlier today, DPO Zia noted. The arrested man also confessed to the crime, he added.

The police officer said Ali Sher is the cousin of the four-year-old girl's father.
