‘Book Corners in Coffee Shops’ project launched across UAE

DUBAI: To promote the culture of reading, United Arab Emirates government has launched a new project ‘Book Corners in Coffee Shops’ across the country.

The project aims to enhance the reading experience of people from different age groups and backgrounds and let them enjoy reading while having a cup of coffee.

The UAE Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development has initiated the project in a number of malls across the country as part of its participation in the ‘Month of Reading’.

Month of Reading was also recently initiated by the UAE authorities to encourage reading among the residents of the country.

Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, Afra Al Sabry, said that the book corner was only the beginning in a long list of coffee shops to be added to the project throughout the year.

Now, American Coffee Company and coffeehouse chain now include a dedicated book corner with books in both Arabic and English languages.

The ‘Book Corners in Coffee Shops’ project comes under the patronage of Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Nahyan stressed at the importance of establishing reading corners in coffee shops across the country, emphasising that this project acts as a cultural addition benefiting shopping-centre goers including men, women and children with different interests.

It is expected that the projects would serve the community intellectually and culturally by creating a motivational atmosphere that facilitates reading.
