Former US president Donald Trump wished his wife Melania a "happy birthday" and remarked, "It would be nice to be with her instead", before entering his continuing hush money trial.

On the morning of Melania's 54th birthday, Trump, 77, made two mentions of her special day outside Manhattan Criminal Court, according to Metro UK.

“I want to start by wishing my wife Melania a very happy birthday. It would be nice to be with her but I’m at a courthouse for a rigged trial, it’s a rigged trial, Terrible,” he said on Friday.

“But we’re doing very well in this rigged trial. Everybody knows it. Yesterday was a big day but I do have to begin by wishing Melania, happy birthday,” he said.

Trump also wished Melania on Instagram.

He then disclosed his wife's whereabouts as well. Interestingly, she hasn't supported him during his criminal prosecution or during the campaign.

“She’s in Florida,” Trump said. “I’ll be going there this evening after this case finishes up. This horrible, unconstitutional case.”

On the other hand, Melania was quiet on social media as of early afternoon on Friday.

But on the morning before her birthday, she shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, about “prioritising self-care”. It consisted of a version of the $245 Mother’s Day necklaces she is selling.

“As mothers, we are inclined to honour our mothers on Mother’s Day, but we must also be mindful of ourselves,” she said.
