Nationwide protests against attack on Hazrat Bibi Zainab’s shrine
KARACHI: Rallies and protests were held in several cities of Pakistan against the attack on the shrine of Hazrat Bibi Zainab in Syria.
Protests were held in Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Tando Allahyar, Multan, Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin.

In Peshawar, the Imamia Rabita Committee demanded that action be taken against the attackers of the shrine. A protest was held outside the press club in Tando Allahyar, while residents of Multan also protested against the attack on the shrine.

Protesters in Karachi demanded that the United Nations and Muslim countries take notice of the attack and termed it an act of terrorism.

Protestors marched to the Foreign Office in Islamabad but were stopped at Shahra-e-Dastoor. The protestors presented their memorandum seeking Pakistan to lodge a protest with the UN over the attack to the FO DG for Middle East.

MQM chief, Altaf Hussain said all schools of thought should protest against the attack, while Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Miraj ul Hadi Siddiqi called the attack a conspiracy against Muslims.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the top administrator of Hazrat Bibi Zainab’s shrine was killed during shelling at the holy site on July 19. The shelling hit the compound of the shrine, which is home to Hazrat Bibi Zainab’s mausoleum.
