NA adopts resolution against Quader Mollah's hanging

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Monday passed a resolution voicing concerns over the hanging of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah, Geo News reported.

The resolution was tabled by MNA Sher Akbar Khan offering condolence with Bangladesh and family of Mollah.

The lower house of the parliament passed the resolution with majority, demanding the Bangladeshi government to end cases against the Jamaat’s leaders and refrain from resurrecting issues of 1971.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced the government's support to Jamaat-e-Islami’s resolution.

Nisar said: "We respect independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh but there should be a policy of forgive and forget."

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) opposed Jamaat-e-Islami’s resolution.

Abdul Sattar Bachani, a PPP MNA, while speaking in the National Assembly opposed the idea of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for a unanimous resolution to condemn the hanging of Jamaat’s Bangladesh leader.

The lawmaker said we should not object to a decision of an independent country like Bangladesh.

He raised the question as to whether Mollah was not responsible for the killing of thousands of Bengalis.

The MNA said that PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was also dubbed killer of thousands of people after his conviction.

Hasina Wajid's nationalist government hanged the Jamaat leader after a trial conducted by a disputed domestic war crimes tribunal. The hanging led to violent protests in Bangladesh.
