Situation in Thar remains alarming
MITHI: The situation in the desert district of Tharparkar still remains alarming as children continue to die of starvation and malnutrition especially in the remote areas where no relief teams have arrived.

Hapless people from these remote areas have marched towards Mithi where the government and private relief teams have setup their headquarters. Those who cannot travel to Mithi wait in vain.

The slow pace of relief work and distribution of wheat by the government has fallen far short of the urgency and speed required for saving children from death due to a lack of food and medicine.

Hospitals are overcrowded but no alternate arrangements have been made to accommodate the patients.

According to reports pouring in from the affected district, only 900 bags of flour could be distributed in Tharparkar out of 47,000 bags sent for the drought-affected population.

Chachro is among those areas of Tharparkar where the Sindh Government has not started its relief operation.

Several prominent members of the Sindh government have visited the famine-hit areas but relief activities are still facing delay due to which the affected people have been forced to move to other places.

Pakistan Army and different political and religious parties have established relief camps to provide food and medicine to the suffering humanity of Tharparkar.
