Pakistan's Street Child World Cup heroes return
KARACHI: Pakistan’s young footballers who made the entire nation proud by finishing third at the Street Child World Cup in Brazil arrived back home to adoring fans.





Arriving at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, the footballers were welcomed by fans, family members, ministers and politicians who showered them with petals.

The children rose from the streets of slum areas and proved that if given the opportunity Pakistan is budding with football talent.

Speaking to Geo News the team’s captain Ahmed Sameer said other street children should also be given a chance to play.





“There are other street children like us who should be supported and given the opportunity to play.”

Other members of the team expressed their excitement of beating India and playing in Brazil.




The footballers became heroes in Pakistan for their performance during the world cup in which they defeated several countries including India (13-0) and the US on their way to securing third position.





The team’s coach Abdul Rasheed praised the performance of the players. Rasheed said the team was not afraid of the competition and has made Pakistan proud.




The team visited the Sindh Assembly where Rs200,000 award was announced for the footballers.

The players also met PPP Patron-in-Chief, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who announced that he had invited football legend Diego Maradona to Pakistan to train the Street Child World Cup Team.

Team members were also awarded Rs100,000 each by the PPP.
