Ballot with electronic voting machines after 2 years: ECP
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday said electronic voting machines will be used for casting votes in all the elections organized after two years.

Talking to media representatives, Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said the ECP has requested the Parliament to bring legislation in the next 60 days for developing biometric system.

He said a pilot project for biometric voting will be launched six months after the legislation.

He said the problems pertaining to ballot papers faced in the last general elections pertaining have made the use of electronic voting machines a great necessity.

The Secretary ECP further informed that the nitty-gritty and technicalities of the electronic voting machine will be sorted out in the next 30 days.

He said the cheapest electronic voting machine has been prepared by India at a cost of Rs30,000 per unit.
