At least 17 inmates dead of poisoning in Venezuela: police

CARACAS: At least 17 inmates who had been on hunger strike over prison conditions died of drug poisoning Wednesday, police sources said.

The prisoners in Uribana, Lara state, had been protesting since Tuesday over what they said was inhumane treatment and rights violations by prison officials, police said privately. (AFP)
