Major power breakdown plunges Karachi into darkness

KARACHI: The metropolis plunged into darkness after a major power breakdown in the early hours of Sunday.

A spokesman for the K-Electric said that the power breakdown occurred due to tripping in transmission line of the National Grid.

He said that repair work is underway to restore the power supply. The spokesman, however, refused to give any time frame.

According to sources, Jinnah and Hospital are having difficulties in handling the routine activities due to suspension of power supply. They said police department is also difficulties in coordination as wireless system failed due to the electricity breakdown.
