Leonard Nimoy passes away at 83

LOS ANGELES: Actor Leonard Nimoy, who won a worldwide fan base as the pointy-eared half-human, half-Vulcan Mr Spock in the blockbuster "Star Trek" television and film franchise, died on Friday aged 83.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed the death to the New York Times. Nimoy had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which he announced last year and attributed to years of smoking – even though he had quit the habit 30 years ago.

He was hospitalized a week ago. He tweeted his last tweet on Monday seems a reflection on life and death, which he ended with his famous parting greeting; Live Long and Prosper (LLAP).
