KARACHI: An alleged worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Saulat Mirza is to be hanged on Thursday (March 19) at Machh Jail in Balochistan.

All arrangements have been completed in this regard and relatives have also paid their last visit to the death row prisoner.

Mirza’s meeting with his wife, son, sisters, brothers and other relatives continued for almost four hours.

His application to get shifted to Karachi Central Jail had been rejected by a division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) while the Supreme Court also rejected a petition against the return of second review petition on Tuesday.

Saulat Mirza’s black warrants were issued on March 11 as he has been sentenced to death in a triple murder case. An anti terrorism court on Tuesday rejected the plea submitted by the sister of the death row prisoner, challenging his execution in Balochistan’s Machh jail.

Mirza was sentenced to death by an anti terrorism court on May 24, 1999 for killing the managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Shahid Hamid, his driver and guard on July 5, 1997 in Karachi.

He was arrested on Dec 10, 1998 from Karachi Airport on his return from Bangkok.
