KARACHI: A military police jeep came under attack on M.A. Jinnah road in Karachi on Tuesday when unknown attackers riding a motorbike targeted the vehicle.

The attack took place near Gul plaza on M.A. Jinnah road in which two military police personnel were injured and were immediately shifted to the Civil hospital; one of the injured succumbed to his wounds en route while the second expired at the hospital.

According to initial reports, both personnel identified as Rashid and Arshad were sitting on the front seats of the jeep and the vehicle was stationary when the attack took place.

Attackers with faces covered riding a motorcycle fired upon the jeep.

Following the incident the police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene and have recovered 9mm bullet casings.

According to the Medical Legal report both personnel were shot in the head.

DIG Police, South told journalists at the scene of the crime that the military police personnel were targeted from the rear and did not see the attackers coming at them.

According to sources, the CCTV footage from cameras in the area is being reviewed to ascertain the route the attackers used to arrive at the scene of the crime and their escape route.

Law enforcers have detained a suspicious individual from the scene of the crime and have taken him for interrogation to the Preedy police station.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah telephoned the Corps Commander General Naveed Mukhtar. The chief minister house spokesman has confirmed that in light of the attack the Sindh chief minister has summoned a meeting of the apex committee for tomorrow (Wednesday).
