Candlelight vigil for late Salman Taseer
ISLAMABAD: The civil society members on Wednesday asked to arrest those extremist elements who were behind the murder of former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer.

They were speaking at a candlelight vigil organised by 'Citizens for Social Change' outside National Press Club here to pay tribute to Salman Taseer on his 1st death anniversary. They were carrying candles and placards inscribed with slogans against extremism.

They said that it has become a culture in the society to declaring others as non-muslim or against Islam by taking advantage of presence of some extremist elements in the country.

They demanded concrete steps against those who are promoting extremist values that ultimately causing unfortunate incidents like the murder of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.

Human right activist Mrs. Tahira Abdullah demanded repeal of all discriminatory laws and vowed to take forward the mission for which Salman Taseer gave his life.

She said that Pakistan is historically a country of peaceful people who have always promoted respect for all opinions and religions.

Another Human right activist Rehana Hashmi said that January 4 will always be remembered as a black day in the history of Pakistan.

She urged the silent majority to speak up against terrorist and extremist forces and raise voice for human rights. (APP)
