PIA flight operations start resuming across the country

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Flight operations of the national carrier have started resuming across the country; after Karachi a flight carrying Umrah pilgrims landed in Lahore. Two flights landed in Islamabad as well. 

One week after employees of the national airline Pakistan International (PIA) suspended flight operations against proposed privatization by the government, flight operations have partially resumed while ticketing offices in Lahore and Islamabad have opened under tight security.

According to PIA spokesman Danial Gillani, 19 flights having operated since Sunday. With the resumption of work at PIA officers, passengers have begun queuing up to confirm their tickets.

PIA’s operation to bring back pilgrims stranded in Jeddah is also likely to be completed today as majority of the passengers were brought home via two flights.

In Peshawar however 8 employees were served with show-cause notices for not reporting for duty.

Offices in Karachi remain closed where employees continue their protest.
