Blast in Peshawar bus kills 15, injures 28

PESHAWAR: At least 15 people were killed and 28 injured when a loud blast occurred in a bus carrying over 40 passengers to Peshawar, early morning on Wednesday.

The blast occurred when the bus reached Sunehri Masjid road, eye witnesses said.

Rescue teams reached the spot. Police has cordoned off the area.

The injured were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital and Cant Hospital.

SSP Operation, Abbas Marwat said that blast occurred through a time device. "An eight-kilogram bomb was planted underneath a seat, near the toolbox," he said.

He added that further investigation will take place when the driver who is in a critical condition recovers. Praising his gallantry he said,"Not caring about his injuries he drove the bus to a police station where rescue services reached easily."

The Peshawar bound bus picked passengers from different stops. Most passengers commuted to work at the NADRA and passport offices in Peshawar.

This is the third time a passenger bus has been attacked.

On May 13, 2015 a bus carrying passengers from the Ismaili sect was attacked in Karachi killing 45, including women and children.

In 2013 a similar bus attack in Peshawar killed 19 and injured 44 officials of the Civil Secretariat.
