WASA recovers Rs.171.7m against outstanding/current bills
HYDERABAD: Water and Sanitation Agency recovered Rs 171.7 million as outstanding and current utility bills during the second-half of year 2011.

According to WASA's spokesman Nadeem Yousuf, the recovery was made possible due to tireless efforts of the management who even succeeded to recover around Rs 38 million dues from the Sindh Government.

Under the head of no objection certification (NOC) and Betterment Charges, the WASA collected Rs14.7 million, he added.

On the other hand, he said, the WASA spent Rs167.8 million on salaries and pensions, which increased from Rs20 million per month after the budget announced 50 percent increment, during period between July-December 2011.

Additional expenses for operation and maintenance, chemical procurement, POL and miscellaneous expenditures stood at Rs54.3 million, he added.

According to Yousuf, on average WASA recovered Rs20 million every month while its expenditures were around Rs32 million.

"WASA is making policies to make the organization able to meet its expenditures out of its own revenue," he said, however, adding that recovery of water charges from the common people was difficult and that the government should financially support WASA until that level of stability was achieved.
