PML-N’s Sheikh Ansar elected first mayor of Islamabad: unofficial result

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won the contest for the post of mayor, as the ruling party's candidate emerged victorious against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contender in Monday's election for the coveted slot, according to unofficial results.

PML-N’s candidate Sheikh Ansar Aziz bagged 49 votes and elected as the first ever mayor for the capital city of Islamabad. His opponent Khurram Nawaz of PTI received 26 votes.

Earlier, the polling for the election of mayor and deputy mayors began at 9 AM and concluded at 5pm. A total of 77 voters were to cast their votes in today’s polls. The majority voted in favour of Sheikh Ansar of PML-N.

The vote count began immediately after the polls closed at 5 PM.
