Imran takes govt to task over non-issuance of NOCs for power projects

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday said Pakistan would have become self-sufficient in electricity and gas generation if the government had spent its resources on energy projects instead of wasting them on Orange Train.

Speaking to media representatives during his visit to Azakhel area here, he said gas deposits were detected at six different locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but, unfortunately, no steps were taken for their extraction like digging wells.

Khan said a US company is willing to invest $100 million in gas projects but it is not being given the NOC.

“Companies are seeking permission for gas extraction from ten locations but they are not getting it from the federal government,” he complained.

The PTI chief identified shortage of energy as the biggest problem being faced by the country.

“Power loadshedding has made people’s lives miserable but the government shows no regard to their plight,” he added.
