PESHWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s message for Women’s Day is to not follow the West.
At an event to mark Women’s Day at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University on Tuesday, the PTI chief said that family structures in the West had broken down. “We must not copy the West, but stick to our own values.”
He added that traditional family structures in Pakistan were stronger than those followed in the West.
He quoted the Quaid-e-Azam and said: "No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you."
He said that his mother was his greatest inspiration, and vowed to empower women and protect their rights.
Kahn also expressed the need to pass women-friendly laws. "In Pakistan, a woman who gets a divorce has no where to go. They are just thrown out."
