Committee on Asia Cup dismal show quizzes Pakistan selectors

LAHORE: A special committee, formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to inquire into Pakistan cricket team’s dismal show in Asia Cup, has questioned the members of selection committee.

According to a spokesman for PCB, the committee gathered for their second meeting here on Tuesday to discuss the issues behind Pakistan’s poor show in the five-nation tournament in Bangladesh.

“The committee individually met with each members of selection committee,” the spokesman said.

“Selectors were asked about the selection process, criteria, decision making process, strategy and other selection related matters,” he added.

The meeting was chaired by Shakil Sheikh. Pakistan’s test captain Misbah-ul-Haq couldn’t attend the meeting as he’s out of Pakistan due to TV commitments for World T20.

Pakistan’s selection committee came under fire for picking Khurram Manzoor, who failed to perform in the tournament. Chief selector Haroon Rasheed has already said that selecting Khurram was a gamble that backfired.

The committee now intends to meet former players to get their views on Asia Cup’s performance in their next meeting, scheduled for later in the month.
