Army Chief orders action against culprits of Lahore suicide attack

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Sunday directed concerned commanders and intelligence agencies to kick off an operation to bring perpetrators of the deadly Lahore suicide attack to book at the earliest.

A statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the decision was taken at a high-level military meeting headed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

DG Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and DG Military Intelligence (MI) were among those attended the meeting, it added.

Gen Raheel expressed his resolve that, “We must bring the killers of our innocent brothers, sisters and children to justice &will never allow these savage inhumans to over run our life and liberty.”

At least 69 people were killed and over 300 others injured in a deadly suicide explosion near Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park earlier in the evening.

The suspected suicide attacker blew himself up in the parking space of the recreational park. A large number of people including women and children were present at the park due to weekly holiday.

Pakistan Army troops were deployed soon after the attack in the Punjab capital's Allama Iqbal Town.
