Nisar offers probe on Panama leaks through FIA

RAWALPINDI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has offered to investigate the Panama Leaks through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Speaking to the media in Kallar Syedan on Saturday, Nisar Ali Khan asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to name any FIA official who he wanted to make the inquiry.

The PTI chairman has demanded an inquiry panel, headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice and comprising of audit experts, should look into the Panama leaks.

Imran Khan has also threatened to move Raiwand if transparent inquiry is not ensured. “I will go straight to Raiwind instead of D-Chowk this time around, if transparent inquiry is not ensured,” said Khan on Friday.

Nisar said Britain, Russia and Argentina have rejected Panama leaks allegations, adding that “This matter should now be resolved in Pakistan as well.”

The Interior Minister said that no political party will be allowed to put the capital under siege. “No one will be allowed to hold public rally in the federal capital.”

Nisar said he will consult with political parties after approval from cabinet over the matter of public rallies in Islamabad.

PTI has announced to hold its founding day rally on April 24. The party had changed its venue from D-Chowk to F/9 park.

Speaking about Imran Khan’s announcement to address nation via Pakistan Television, Nisar Ali Khan said only President and the Prime Minister can address the nation on state TV.

Nisar said, “I am Interior Minister but I can’t address nation via State TV.” Imran will not be allowed to address nation on PTV, he asserted.

Imran Khan welcomes Nisar's offer

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan seemed to have liked the proposal put forward by Chaudhry Nisar.

Hours after Nisar offered to investigate the Panama Papers’ revelations through FIA, Khan proposed the name of former Federal Tax Ombudsman Shoaib Suddle to head the commission investigating the matter.

“Shoaib Suddle is an expert of investigating white-collar crime,” he said.

Suddle, before his appointment as Federal Tax Ombudsman, served as the head of Intelligence Bureau. He had also been an Inspector General of Police, Sindh.

Moreover, the PTI chief has announced to address the nation from his Bani Gala residence in the federal capital at 6pm on Sunday (tomorrow).

During the address, Khan will not entertain any queries from journalists, a PTI notification said.
