Visa doubts for Amir on Pakistan’s tour to England

Mohammad Amir could be denied a visa for Pakistan’s tour to England this summer over his conviction for spot-fixing, The Daily Telegraph reported.

“Amir’s case will depend on whether his admission into the country would be contrary to the public good,” The Daily Telegraph quoted immigration officials as saying.

“The decision will be at the discretion of the immigration officer dealing with his visa application.”

Amir and his former team mates Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were all banned for spot-fixing, particularly for bowling deliberate no-balls by pre-arrangement at Lord’s, during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010.

The trio served jail sentences in Britain and was given minimum five-year bans by an International Cricket Council (ICC) tribunal.

There were similar doubts whether Amir would be granted a visa to travel to New Zealand with Pakistan team for a series comprising three one-day and three T20 internationals in January earlier this year.

But all went fine and Amir was granted the visa to travel with the team.
