Three-day anti-polio campaign kicks off in Quetta

QUETTA: A three-day anti-polio drive kicked off in 12 districts of Balochistan on Monday.

Over 1.3 million children under the age of five will be vaccinated by 3619 volunteers against the crippling polio virus.

The Frontier Corps and and Pakistan Army personnel will be deployed at sensitive areas to protect the teams.

Special attention will be paid to the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate where children will be administered the vaccine.

Due to by-polls in Jhal Magsi, the anti-polio campaign will start in the district on May 3.

Talking about the IPV programme, Dr Saifur Rehman Coordinator Emergency Operation Center EOC Balochistan said that the IPV programme remained successful across the province particularly in high risk districts where more than 2,40,000 children had been injected against the crippling polio virus.

He urged the media and religious scholars to play their role and encourage parents to administer their children with polio drops.
