LAHORE: The board of governors of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided ‘in principle’ to appoint former Australian test cricketer Stuart Law as new head coach of the national side, sources said late on Tuesday.
Stuart Grant Law has played one test and 54 One-Day Internationals for Australia. He also captained Queensland to five Sheffield Shield titles and two one day trophies, making him the most successful captain in Australian domestic cricket. Law is also Queensland’s all-time leading run scorer in first class cricket.
The Aussie has recently inked a contract with Cricket Australia (CA) as a batting consultant for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, scheduled for July-September. Pakistan team is also scheduled to tour England during the same time-period.
Former England coach Peter Moores has already turned down an opportunity to succeed Waqar Younis as the new Pakistan head coach.
Coaching Pakistan, traditionally a fractious bunch of talented individuals, is one of the toughest jobs in international cricket and Younis stepped down a disillusioned man last month after the team’s poor World T20 display in India.
After the team’s woeful campaigns both in the Asia Cup and the World T20, the PCB has embarked on rebuilding the side, appointing former cricket captain Inzamam-ul-Haq as the new chief selector.
