Police claim killing three alleged militants in Karachi

KARACHI: Police officials claimed to have killed three militants belonging to a banned organisation during a gunfight in Gulshan-e-Buner here on Sunday.

The skirmish took place when police were searching the area after receiving a tipoff that the militants were hiding there, SSP Malir Rao Anwar told the media.

“When police reached an area near a hill, terrorists started firing on them and in retaliation three militants were killed,” said Anwar, adding that the militants belonged to the Al Qaeda in the Indian Sub-continent branch.

Police also recovered weapons and explosives including hand grenades from the hideout, he added.

One of the militants was identified as Riaz alias Raja, who among others, was wanted over the killing of policemen and other terror acts in Karachi, Anwar said.
