Police foils suicide attack in Mardan

MARDAN: At least 12 people were injured on Tuesday as police foiled a suicide attack.

A man riding a bicycle near City Police Station came too close to the SHO’s car. Police saw a grenade in his hand and opened fire, which caused the suicide jacket he was wearing to explode.

Two policemen and 10 bystanders near him got injured, DPO Mardan Faisal Shahzad said.

The injured were shifted to the DHQ Hospital and Mardan Medical College.

The suicide bomber’s bicycle was laden with explosives which were later diffused by a bomb disposal squad, police said.

The suicide bomber’s head and body parts are in police custody. After DNA tests the bomber will be identified, police said.

Mardan has witnessed several suicide attacks. In April this year a suicide bombing at an excise office killed one and injured 17.
