Focus on law and order: Sindh govt pumps Rs11bn more in 2016-17 budget

KARACHI: The government of Sindh appears to have realized the importance of law and order situation in the province, especially in view of the ongoing operation in Karachi and the National Action Plan.

According to budget documents, the provincial government has increased the budget of main law enforcement agencies that are not only maintaining the law and order situation but also wiping out criminals from the society for almost the past two years.

In the current scenario, it was imperative not to create hurdles in the way of the Karachi operation. Therefore, the Sindh government has drastically enhanced Police and Rangers budget for the next fiscal year.

The Sindh Police budget has been increased to almost 74 billion, up by Rs11 billion.

For Frontier watch and ward (FC), current year allocations were a little over Rs1.06 billion, while revised budget approved after some decrease about Rs960.67 million. Now, for year 2016-17, Rs1.1 billion has been allocated.

Pakistan Rangers budgetary allocations for ongoing fiscal were over Rs2.44 billion, which were later revised with an increase of Rs300 million to Rs2.74 billion. However, the Sindh government realized the current situation and Rs2.93 have now been allocated for the Rangers budget for FY2016-17.

According to sources associated with the provincial Finance Department, Sindh government is focusing on maintaining law and order in the province and has left no stone unturned to equip its law enforcement agencies in this regards.
