Stone carving exhibition at LAC from Oct 19

LAHORE: Lahore Arts Council is organsing a solo exhibition based on stone carving works by Ustad Muhammad Illyas.

Ustad Illyas, who belongs to Sarikot, Haripur Hazara, is a maestro of stone carving. His family carried out this artisanship for the past many decades. The carving is done on special slate-stone found in the Hazara area.

According to the organisers, Illyas may be the last exponent of this laborious, dying craft from the ancient and historical land of Sarikot, Haripur. He has been engaged in this passion for the past fifty years or so.

The exhibition will be held at Alhamra Art Gallery from Tuesday, Oct19 onwards.
