No decision on Waseem Akhtar’s parole or prison office

KARACHI: MQM’s Waseem Akhtar has been elected mayor of the largest city in Pakistan, however a decision regarding his parole of whether he will be able to have a office in prison has not been made.

Akhtar who was elected on Wednesday said he will be handling his duties from in prison via a video link.

Prison officials have informed Geo News that the Home Office was waiting for a request from the newly elected mayor, following which a decision would be made.

Officials added that all prisoners are treated equally and parole could only be granted by the chief minister.
Akhtar was arrested on July 19 on suspicion of sheltering and providing medical treatment to alleged militants and criminals. He also faces earlier charges of inciting riots.
