Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms might shut down soon

It seems that production houses in India are facing tough competition. Soon after news emerged that UTV Disney India was struggling and might shut down, reports of another production house facing trouble are already out.

The production house in question is of Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, which may be heading toward a shut down. Though there has been no official announcement yet, rumors are going around that it is not keen on producing any new films, aside from the one it already has in the bag.

Although Sameer Nair, CEO of Balaji Telefilms, denied shut down plans, he did mention that the company is not taking up any more film projects for now. He further clarified that Balaji had always focused on creating content for television and that it won’t be bringing any more films on board. He stated that the company is busy with VOD service, ALT Digital, which will be launching in the next few months.

The reason behind this decision it seems is the lack of response from its last two films: Azhar and Udta Punjab. The fate of the production house is resting on the release of Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor starrer ‘Half Girlfriend.’
