Interior Ministry to expedite investigations of 'RAW funding' to MQM

ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry has decided to expedite the investigations of alleged RAW funding to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), for which it will again record the statement of Sarfraz Merchant.

When contacted by Geo News, Merchant, a UK-based Pakistani businessman and a suspect in London money-laundering case that also involves top MQM leaders, responds: "No one has yet contacted me about the new investigation. I have already been interviewed and appeared before the joint investigation team (JIT) for a full length probe."

"I have handed over all evidence to the JIT already," he added.

"Chaudhry Nisar is a sincere man, he tried to advance this case but some elements within the political system did everything to halt this investigation," he claimed. "The RAW Pandora box could cause sleepless nights to many in powerful circles."

The JIT has not reached anywhere because of political interference, maintains Sarfraz Merchant.

"I was interviewed on May 20, 2016. Now it's nearly four months and I am learning through media that we are back to square number 1," he lamented, questioning that what happened to the original JIT.
