MQM arrested women workers confess to involvement in Aug 22 violence

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) arrested women workers confessed to being involved in August 22 riots, it was revealed during the Sindh Apex committee session on Wednesday.

Officials said that the arrested women workers’ family members confirmed their presence during the violence, which left one dead and wounded several others.

Important information was discovered through video and CCTV cameras, officials added.

Earlier, a court had remanded three MQM women workers for four days in police custody in a case related to attacking an ARY news office after being incited to violence by a the MQM founder on August 22.

Significant decisions were taken during the first apex committee today under Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.

The apex committee decided that all the illegal offices of any political party will be terminated.

It was also decided that incidents similar in nature to that of August 22 would not be tolerated under any circumstance.

During the meeting, the DG Rangers Sindh presented his recommendation to end the quota system, sources said.

The quota system undermines merit, said sources.

The committee agreed to strictly follow the code of conduct concerning animal hides as Eidul Azha is just around the corner, sources said.

“No one will be allowed to forcibly take animal skins,” sources added.

Following the meeting, Adviser to the chief minister on information Moula Bakhsh Chandio said that religious madrassas would be registered, adding that the decision is irrevocable.

Chandio said that the reservations of the political parties would be mitigated.

The provincial minister said that a decision has been taken to modify the registration process for number plates of vehicles.

He added that illegal offices built on the government’s land in Karachi have been demolished.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad, Corps Commander Karachi, Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar, Chief Secretary Siddiqui Memon, Senior Minister Nisar Khuhro, Moula Bux Chandio, Murtaza Wahab, DG Rangers Maj. General Bilal Akbar, IGP Sindh A.D Khwaja, Additional IG CTD Sanaullah Abbasi to review the law and order situation.

In the meeting, DG Rangers Maj. General Bilal Akbar briefed the Apex committee on the progress made in the metropolis since September 2013 when the Karachi operation was launched.
