HYDERABAD: After Karachi, authorities have started demolishing illegally constructed offices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Hyderabad.

Late on Wednesday night, municipal workers razed two unit offices of MQM sector A in Heerabad and Aamil Colony areas, with the help of heavy machinery they had brought with them. Huge contingents of police and Rangers were also present on the spots when the offices were being pulled down.

Police also sealed two MQM sector offices including one zonal office. They removed portraits of the MQM supremo Altaf Hussain from Latifabad area.

Earlier on Monday night, two more MQM offices were flattened in Karachi taking the overall tally of demolished party offices in the megapolis to 32.

The law enforcement agencies closed over 200 party offices in a crackdown triggered by an inflammatory speech by party chief Altaf Hussain and ensuing violence in Karachi on August 22.

The incidents of violence on August 22 claimed life of a man and left eight others wounded.

Officials say that they have been directed to raze offices constructed illegally on public lands.
