'Pakistan Zindabad' chanted at Indian Congress rally

MURADABAD/KARACHI: Participants of a Congress party rally on Tuesday drew criticism from Indian media after they chanted 'Pakistan Zinadabad' slogans.

The rally was held in Muradabad, Uttar Pradesh, to commemorate the killing of Indian troops in the attack on an army brigade headquarters in Uri, occupied Kashmir. The participants, for reasons not yet clear, voiced 'Pakistan Zindabad (Long Live Pakistan)' at the rally.

The episode fumed pro-Modi Indian media who slammed the Congress activists for voicing pro-Pakistan slogans. A few television hosts were seen questioning as to whether the rally was held in favour of Pakistan.

Reports suggest that police have booked a number of local office-bearers and activists of the Congress party on sedition changes.

Tensions have soared high between the two nuclear armed adversaries in South Asia over the disputed Kashmir region, as over 100 innocent Kashmiris have been killed at the hands of Indian forces.

On September 18, an attack on Indian army's brigade headquarters left 18 soldiers dead. The Indian authorities immediately put the blame on Pakistan without providing any proof.
