ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the unprovoked firing by Indian forces across the Line of Control (LoC) early Thursday morning due to which two Pakistani soldiers were martyred.

Slamming the Indian aggression, PM Nawaz said Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be considered weakness.

He said the Pakistan Army is fully capable of defending the country and that Pakistan is ready to combat Indian forces and defend itself.

“We will give a befitting response if our sovereignty faces any danger,” he said.

The prime minister paid tribute to the martyred soldiers and lauded the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army.

The unprovoked firing came amid mounting tensions between the two nuclear-armed adversaries over occupied Kashmir.

The firing at the LoC in Kel and Lipa sectors began at 2:30 AM and continued till 8:00 AM, ISPR said in a statement.

The Indian guns were silenced after a befitting reply from the Pakistan Army, the ISPR added.

Tensions between Pakistan and India escalated over the use of brute force by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir. So far, over 110 innocent Kashmiris have been martyred as occupying Indian forces used force to quell protests in the valley that initiated after the killing of Kashmiri youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, had highlighted the worst human rights abuses in the Indian-occupied Kashmir and called for an immediate cessation to Indian atrocities.

The speech appeared to fume the neighbouring archrival, as its top leadership reacted to it with baseless allegations and threats.
