CJ turns down invitation for conference in New Delhi

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali rejected an invitation for a conference scheduled in New Delhi next month amid rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

In a letter he wrote to the Indian Supreme Court he said that in the present conditions he could not attend the meeting.

Two Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom when Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) on Thursday morning, the ISPR confirmed.

In retaliatory firing by Pakistani forces in response to Indian aggression at the Line of Control 14 Indian soldiers were killed, sources said on Thursday.

Tensions have soared high between the two nuclear-armed neighbours over Occupied Kashmir and an attack on the Indian army's brigade headquarters in Uri, which left 18 Indian soldiers dead.
