Miandad should prove allegations against Afridi or apologise: Former PCB chief

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Khalid Mahmood said on Thursday allegations levelled by Javed Miandad against Shahid Afridi are serious. Khalid Mahmood appeared on Geo News programme ‘Geo Pakistan’ and said Miandad now had two options, prove the allegations or apologise.  

According to the former PCB chief, Javed Miandad had alleged the national team was involved in match-fixing twice in 1999.  The former star batsman had expressed suspicion during the Mohali test and then again during a match played in Sharjah, Mahmood said.   

Khalid Mahmood further said that match-fixing was a serious issue and in the past players had been involved, however every player should be given the right to a hearing.

The former PCB chief added that perhaps Miandad had some evidence which was the basis for the allegations. He further said that two players had raised their bats at Miandad when he had levelled these allegations.  “He needs to present the evidence, otherwise pay the price for the allegations.”

Khalid Mahmood said match-fixing should be investigated as this issue can be raised by India in ICC.
