Planning was underway at PTI convention to lock down Islamabad: Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Danial Aziz has said there was planning underway at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) youth convention for locking down the federal capital.

Aziz asserted the PTI wants to go ahead with its planned shutdown of Islamabad, despite the court orders. "The matter is not so simple; we were aware of the proceedings inside the building where the convention was being held," he added.

"Should we wait for them to come and force people to close down their offices, and then take action," he questioned.

The PML-N lawmaker said the high court announced a verdict against proposed PTI sit-in and the convention was a violation of court orders.

Earlier, there was a police crack down during a convention of the PTI's youth wing. Several members of the party's youth wing were arrested. 

Video footage showed police and Frontier Constabulary personnel baton-charging and taking away PTI workers in a bus from the venue of the convention.

A scuffle broke out between the law enforcers and senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who argued with the personnel for demanding an explanation for the arrests.

Qureshi said PTI workers, including women workers, had been attacked by the police at the youth convention organised by the party.
