RAWALPINDI: The driver and guard of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed were taken into custody here on Friday.

According to police sources, the guard and driver of the AML chief were taken into custody near the New Katrian area of the city.

The car of Sheikh Rashid was also seized, police sources added.

This development came as security forces surrounded the residence of Sheikh Rasheed in Rawalpindi and Imran Khan's residence in Bani Gala.

The AML chief was expected to hold a rally outside Lal Haveli on Friday but failed to do as roads leading to the area were sealed by containers. Sheikh Rasheed managed to reach Committee Chowk where clashes had taken place between protestors and police.

Addressing protestors, Rasheed challenged authorities to arrest him. "If you have the courage come and arrest me. I am ready," the AML chief said.
