PIA flight having Afridi, KP MNAs catches fire at Peshawar airport

PESHAWAR: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane caught fire on Thursday at the Bacha Khan International Airport. Cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi and four members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly also were on board at the time of incident.

According to PIA sources, the incident occurred to the airline’s flight number Pk-535. Luckily no causalities too place, but the flight which was en route to Karachi was halted.

The plane’s rear end caught fire at the time of take off, sources informed.

The passengers were taken off the plane right after the fire broke and then it was brought under control.

Sources said that Afridi, KP Assembly members namely Yaseen Khalil, Dina Naz, Zahid Durrani and Amna Sardar were also in the same flight.

Meanwhile, PIA Spokesman Danyal Gilani termed the news baseless saying that the plane’s automatic system had suddenly stopped working.

The fire alarm did not ring, he said, adding that the plane is being inspected and will be operational soon.
