KARACHI/MUZAFFARGARH: An eight-year-old girl was raped at Machar Colony, a slum in Karachi.

A medical report confirmed the rape. Police has arrested the accused, a case has been filed against him in the Docks Police Station and an investigation is underway.

According to the statement given by the rape survivor, she was sexually assaulted by Gulzar at his shop on November 23.

The eight-year-old is under treatment at Civil Hospital.

In a separate incident at Muzaffargarh an eighth grade girl was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and then raped.

According to her father four men kidnapped her daughter, tortured and raped her, and then left her outside the girl’s house. Police refused to register a case against the accused, the father added.

The National Assembly, in October made amendments to the anti-rape law (Criminal Amendment Bill 2015) which make DNA test mandatory for victims, penalise the police for delaying investigation, and allow victims to testify in court through an in-camera session.

Most rape victims are unable to get justice due to the absence of medical evidence to prove the crime in court. Others are forced into withdrawing the case due to social pressures.
