Polling ends for NA-258 in Karachi

KARACHI: The voting process for the constituency NA-258 by-polls on Monday ended at 5 PM. Following which, the counting of votes began. 

A total of eleven candidates from various various political parties contested the election. Polling began at 08:00 AM and concluded at 05:00 PM without any interruption. 

The seat fell vacant after PML-N member Abdul Hakeem Baloch quit the party and joined Pakistan Peoples Party.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced the by-election on 22nd November. The poll date later extended to 24th November, due to IDEAS 2016 defence exhibition.

Rangers had been deployed both inside and outside the polling stations during the by-elections. Mobile phones were also restricted from polling stations.

Out of 2287 polling stations, 60 had been declared highly sensitive, while 207 polling stations were regarded sensitive.
