Modi effigy burned in Amritsar protest against demonetization

Modi's demonetization continues to be unwanted trouble for the common Indian. Frustrated at the hardships they are having to face, many came out in protest in Amritsar on Wednesday.

Members of the Congress organized the protest in the middle of a commercial hub for those being inconvenienced by Modi's scheme where angry protesters set alight an effigy of the Indian prime minister.

Om Parkash Soni, the Congress party leader and MLA from Amritsar demanded to know if they people standing in queues outside banks were hiding any black money.

Modi's demonetization scheme aims to root out the black money from the Indian economy, much of which is held in private strong rooms. However many allege that Modi's government gave the heads up to those close to the BJP ahead of the crackdown and now only the poor Indians are suffering because of the scheme.

The Congress-organized protest was held at the Katra Jaimal Singh commercial hub in an effort to show how the scheme has affected shopkeepers.

Other congress leaders present at the protest blamed Modi's government for creating chaos in the country.

"People are dying and even committing suicides but unfortunately the adamant government has failed to control the situation." Jugal Kishore Sharma told the Hindustan Times before adding, “People are struggling for their own money to get it out of the banks.” he added
